Tree in the street strip?
The city Urban Forestry team manages city trees and takes reports of tree concerns at (540) 853-2000. The planting strip between sidewalk and street may be city property. Do not authorize removal there until ownership and city process are clear.
Protected open space or an approved plan?
Some properties carry conservation-area agreements that restrict removal of living trees without prior written city consent. Check deed restrictions and approved plans rather than assuming every private tree is unrestricted.
Will the project disturb substantial land?
Roanoke City says its land-disturbance process generally applies at 2,500 square feet or more, unless exempt. If grading, clearing or access work is part of the job, ask the city whether a separate land-disturbance permit applies.

Who verifies the tree and parcel?
Verify whether the tree is private, in a street strip or covered by a conservation agreement. For substantial grading, ask about land-disturbance approvals before work.
